Afternoon Set -Louise: Great vintage baby dress set knitting pattern. This type of set was often called an afternoon set because mother's used to change baby to take them for a walk in their pram in the afternoons. This little set has instructions for a dress, matinee coat and a bonnet. all knitted in vintage 3ply ( although it says 2ply in the pattern) Try modern 3ply for a smaller size and a modern 4ply for just a tad larger. Always work a tension size if an accurate size is desired. To fit up to 21 inch chest.

This lovely dress in knitted in rayon or art silk, but could be knitted in modern silk or a cotton, light weight yarn to knit to a 4ply tension. To fit 6 months to a year. Easy smocked panels at yoke ( rib that is nipped together by a stitch  after completion - so easy and very effective). Back and front are alike and fastened at the shoulders.

There is the pretty on on the cover, which i made last years in modern 3ply merino wool and it fitted a 3 month old beautifully. There are also instructions for gored skirted dress with a collar and small double buttoned placket as well as one with circular yoke and easily smocked decoration, this one is knitted from the yoke down in one piece.

There are instructions for all three designs and they are knitted in 4ply for the one with chicks around the bottom and the panelled one with the one shown at the bottom of the cover knitted in a thicker wool that would probably similar to modern double knitting. Also a set for a little girl about the same age with flared coat and close fitting bonnet. Both these sets are knitting in a double knitting wool to fit 21-22 inch chest over clothes. This one is to fit a baby one year old 20-22 inch chest and is worked in an art silk (rayon) and wool blend that gives 11 trebles to an inch. Always work a tension square and change hook if needed. Five small buttons at back fasten the dress. Colours suggested are white, peach, primrose of the pretty green as illustrated.

Barry12-98 Boy's Suit: Great vintage knitting pattern for little boy's buster suit from 1940s. This pattern is for two little sets, one with fair isle on waist band and cuffs, this one has straps. The other one has little buttons and the jumper can also be used as a cardigan and is double breasted with check cuffs and collar. To fit 21-22 inch chest and knitted in vintage 3ply which would be similar to modern 4ply. Always work a tension square.

They are knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply to gain size as stated 18 months to 2 years (19", 20", 21", 22" 24" chest) If you want smaller still then use modern 3ply. The embroidery is optional, 4 of the designs have embroidery detail. 1930's

Bairnswear 15: Great vintage toddlers rompers knitting pattern 1930's. There are instructions for rompers or crawlers to fit 12months -2 years. There are 6 designs including the one on the front.  Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. There is one with a cat on the front, this one with the lamb, both with long sleeves, to fit 23 and 25 inch chest. There are also three to fit 22  inch chest, one with embroidery round the neck, one with a panel of fancy stitch and the other very simple sleeveless one, similar to a vest onesie now worn by babies. There is also another long sleeved one to fit a 23 inch chest. On the back page are some pictures of other patterns  that were available, several of which I have in my collection.

There is one set with a dog figure, although it is called a tiger! the one on the front with just a touch of colourful embroidery, another two with embroidery around the pockets and one with rabbits round the bottom - edge. Bairnswear 20: Vintage knitting pattern for baby. The perfect wool outfit for the modern baby, from 1920's. I have a photo of my mother who was born in 1925 dressed in a similar outfit in her pram at 1 year old. Fabulous pattern with instructions for all in one with collar, bonnet and bootees, coat, as seen on front cover, matinee jacket with different design, cardigan, vest, legginettes, rib vest, cross over vest and button knickers and finally a body belt, or body warmer for the tummy. 11 garments in all. Some garments are knitted in vintage 4ply which is nearer our modern double knitting, or in vintage 3ply which is nearer our modern 4ply, tension squares will tell you if a change of ply or needles is required. To fit 19" chest, 20", chest,22" chest and 23" chest, for the cardigan, matinee and coat. The vests fit 17" and a rib vest that will fir from 16" chest upwards.

These little sets are still relevant today and look super sweet on any little boy. The top set shown has smocking and contrast bands, is knitted in 4ply, to fit 24 inch chest. There is also another set with little knickers, roll neck jumper with contrast bands to fit 22 inch chest, as well as the bottom set with straps also to fit 22 inch chest. There are instructions for the jumper on the front to fit 24 inch chest and anther jumper with a v neck to fit 22 inch chest, and finally sweet little v neck with fair isle trim to fit 27 inch chest, all knitted in 4ply. always work a tension square.

Bairnswear 28: Vintage knitting pattern for baby from the 1930's for 5 different little dresses. From 1 month -12 months for 18" chest to 22" chest and length, which can be altered easily is 14" or 16". They are all knitted in vintage 3ply which knits similar to our modern 4ply. If you want a smaller size use modern 3ply, I knitted my niece a 1st size dress making it 12" long in modern 3ply on 10 and 11 needles and it was just right, the 3rd one down on the left.

Pretty cross over coat with collar and simple diamond lace pattern, two different style bonnets, mittens, matinee coat, same pattern on skirt of jacket, legginettes, fern patterned, satin ribbon edged pram blanket, measuring 22.5" by 30" and another plainer blanket in a garter stitch design and blanket stitched edges, measuring 27" by 36". chest measurements 20" knitted in vintage 4ply so try a tension square baby double knitting might work better to size or use modern 3ply for new born size or modern 4ply for slightly smaller then described. One of the blankets is knitted in silk and wool blend, this is still available from some wool manufacturers.

Bairnswear 47: Fantastic vintage baby knitting pattern from 1930's. This time for buster suits to fit boys 1-2 years. The little jumpers are great with little embroidered motifs, or lovely without, each design is different 2 with collars and two without. My brother wore these, so my Mother tells me in the 1940's The jumpers are knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply with a tension square. Jumpers are for 19" or 20" chest, easy to make a bit bigger by change of ply to double knitting. The little shorts or pants are knitted in vintage 3ply also or modern 4ply.

Great little additions to a retro wardrobe for baby or large doll.1st and 2nd sizes, birth up to I year. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply or modern 3[ply for a smaller size. To fit large baby doll just use modern 3ply and size 11 (3mm) needles - will then fit large pedigree baby, prem or any of the larger dolls. Fabulously retro pattern.

Bairnswear 61: Great vintage baby matinee jacket knitting pattern from 1930s. There are 4 designs to fit 1-3 months or 19 inch chest. There is one with round edges and embroidered roses call Rosebud, Rainbow is also embroidered at edges but is more of a jacket with square neck and full skirt, Bouquet is a straight sided jacket with bow at v neck these three are all knitted in vintage 3ply that will knit to modern 4ply - always knit a tension square. If you would like a smaller size then try using modern 3ply. The other pattern is in vintage 2ply, so will work better in modern 3ply, it is called Moonbeam and is simple Magyar style with embroidered motif in corners at front of jacket. Beautiful, retro designs.

Bairnswear 63: Vintage knitting pattern for dear little romper suits for baby boys from the 1930s. These little garments are coming back into fashion, I can see why! Although I had little girls, many of my friends in the 1960's made these for their little boys and all my brothers through the late 1940's and 50's wore these to, so practical and timeless, so much nicer than jeans or babygro. These are for 9-12 months, to fit 21" chest to 23" chest, to make smaller use modern 3ply and smaller needles, they look fabulous on reborn babies too.

Bairnswear 65: Vintage knitting pattern for boys first suit. This pattern is from the 130's when this type of suit was so popular. The little jumpers are so sweet, chest 19" to 21" knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply or stick with modern 3ply if you would like the jumper or knickers to be a bit smaller. I have made the 2nd one down for one of my big vintage dolls, who is new born baby size, and it looks great in duck egg blue, also a popular colour of the time, I just used size smaller needles and modern 3ply.

This pattern has a stunning shawl, easy pattern, cute little retro bonnet and dress with underwear and bootees to match including a sweet little hug-me-tight, all knitted in vintage 3ply pure wool or try modern 4ply (work tension square). The shawl takes 13 oz or 7 x 50gm balls modern 4ply, the dress and bonnet 2x 50gm balls of modern 4ply (makes them a little smaller, therefore more suitable for newborns - have ago is easier than it looks!

Bairnswear73: Delightful vintage knitting pattern for baby dresses from the 1930's.  These dear little dresses are knitted in vintage 2ply and 3ply - don't panic this is the same as modern 3ply and 4ply. Pattern suggest knitting on size 9  (3.75mm) so if you would like it a bit smaller just knit on size 10 (3.25mm) Try a tension square to see if you need to change needles and adjust length for the child you are knitting for. Chest measurements 23" but easily can be made smaller by using modern 2ply or 3ply on smaller needles and adjusting skirt length. Pattern states 1-2 years, but all toddlers are different.

There are three different coat styles with breechettes, beret and hat. The little girl on the front cover is wearing the pretty hat, a double breasted coat with an angora collar to fit 22 inch chest. The single breasted button up coat, beret and breechettes is also to fit 22 inch chest. The one illustrated at the top with stand up collar and shoulder cape is also double breasted and has breechettes and beret to complete the set, to fit 23 inch chest. All knitted in a wool similar to modern 4ply, always work a tension square.
