vintage baby knitting pattern fro dress 1930s BD Irene-2: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern 1920s. This pattern is from the period just after the First World War and is knitted in a simple, but pretty pattern with simple embroidery. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply as tension suggests this is a better ply. Always work a tension square. To fit up to a 26 inch chest and is 16 inches to hem, but length can be adjusted . Shown on a 2 year old little girl.

Patons 2517C: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern pre 1920s. This pattern is from the period just after the First World War and is knitted in a simple, but pretty pattern with interesting bodice design. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply as tension suggests this is a better ply. Always work a tension square. The yarn originally used for this little dress was a silk blend. To fit up to a 21 inch chest and is 15 inches to hem.

Two little dresses to fit 20" or 22" chest. worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square and see if you need to change needles. Length is 15 or 16 inches, but this can be varied. Great for that retro look this Christmas.

Patons 4911: Great vintage boys and girls outdoor set knitting pattern from 1930s. This little set is to fit 23 inch chest, which is about 18months -2 years old depending on size of child. Try modern 4ply and change size of needle if needed, always work a tension square. Little boy's coat is double breasted - little girl's is shown on the cover. Legginettes come over the top of the shoe.

vintage baby shawl and layette knitting pattern 1930s

Patons 6/497: Fabulous baby layette vintage knitting 1920s. This beautiful pattern has long and short dress, matinee coat, slippers, mittens and bonnet for little girl, jumper, pants, bootees, mittens and pull on hat for little boy, plus there are instructions for the shawl. There are also instructions for under bodice and body belt, long sleeve vest, short sleeve vest, petticoat and tummy band  and two different types of knickers, and a small head shawl of 26 inches square. All items are shown below separately. This is from a much earlier pattern published by Patons before the 1st world war. The shawl measures 54 inches square and the pattern is available separately. The chest measurements are 18 inches matinee coat,  dress chest 16 inches,  bodice 14 and 16 inches round chest, vests 16 inches and prem baby size for 14 inches. Wonderfully small sizes for todays newborn from this lovely vintage pattern. Worked in vintage 2ply (modern 3ply) and vintage 3ply (modern 4ply). Be sure to work tension square as some of these garments are worked on larger needles than you would think. See below for illustrations of items in this pattern.

Pearsall's 353: Great vintage 1920s knitting pattern for baby dress. There are instructions for dress to fit 17 inch chest. The original yarn was a pure silk and wool blend, you can still by this type of yarn, but this was probably in a vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square, front and back are worked the same. the vest is to fit 16 inch chest. Can be knitted in pure silk, if you do this read the instructions on the back page for knitting with pure silk as this still holds true even for modern silk yarn. I will try knitting the vest in modern 3ply pure wool and see what size it come out - just need a bit of time!

vintage baby dress set knitting pattern 1940s Pearsalls 415 Dress Set: great vintage baby knitting pattern from 1940s.  Fabulous little set for baby girl consisting of dress, matinee coat and knickers. To fit 24 inch chest and worked in a 4ply rayon that would have been shiny like silk, but a modern day 4ply should work or 3ply for a smaller set.

Knitted in baby double knitting wool, for smaller size try modern 4ply or even 3ply on smaller needles for new born.

This handy fitted sleeping bag is very useful for keeping baby warm and can also be used as a dressing gown as baby begins to walk. To fit chest 22, 24 and 26 inches and length (adjustable) 28, 30 and 32 inches. if knitted as a dressing gown omit the last three inches and one button hole and the button holes along the bottom edge. Knitted in vintage 3ply so the same rule applies as always - work a tension square and use modern 4ply if you want a similar fit, change needles if needed. but if you would like a smaller size then try modern 3ply. To fit 18 inch chest.

The coat has pattern over yoke and at bottom edge, bonnet brim repeats the pattern, the leggings are open foot so they can fit over little shoes. Knitted in 3ply baby wool. Always work a tension square.

vintage toddlers coat and bonnet knitting pattern from 1940s penelope 1867 Penelope 1867: Super little coat and hat knitting pattern from early 1940s. This pattern has instructions for knitting the collared coat and bonnet with simple thumbed mittens in a yarn that poodle or fancy yarn, could try this one with one of the many teddy type yarns. Always work a tension square and try this in in a double knitting type of soft fluffy yarn. It knits to 4 stitches to an inch (2.5mm) to an inch on size 7 old or 4.5mm needles. To fit 1-2 years or 24 inch chest, length adjustable. I will try the bonnet in one of the modern yarns and let you know.

The coat and dress has a imitation smocked waist band. Worked in 3ply to fit birth to 6 months or 18 inch chest.

PS3-211: Outdoor set: Great traditional vintage knitting pattern from 1920s. Knitted all in garter stitch, so easy to make this retro set. Double breasted for little boy with cap, and single breasted of centre with tie waist and bonnet for little girl. Both sets have the open foot leggings and mittens, with or without thumbs. Unusually both coats have raglan sleeves.  Shown on children about 18 moths old and around 21 inch chest. Wool used was similar to modern double knitting, then referred to as 4ply. Always work a tension square.
