It was so popular to make and trim your own hat that many patterns appeared, some simple like this one that could be made chic with a crocheted or knitted trim. The juliet cap with a peak shaped front and the round cap are both knitted but cherries and rose spray trim are crocheted  - the ribbons are knitted and the halo trim top left is padded and knitted in stocking stitch with embroidery or you could use ribbon. Lovely retro pattern.

Knitted in either 4ply o r double knitting. Always work a tension square.

Bestway 1170cr: Great vintage ladies turban and bag CROCHET pattern 1940s. This pattern has instructions for this super bag and a the forties fashionable turban style hat. The turban can also be worn as a scarf and the bag can have a long or short handle. Worked in vintage 3 or 4ply yarn, so modern 4ply or double knitting can be used. The bag measures 11 inches by 9 inches, the strap is faced with ribbon. There are also instructions for the sailor hat seen below also crocheted.

The turban can also be worn as a scarf. Evocative of wartime evenings spent knitting in front of the fire making the most of unravelled wool from worn out jumpers!

All 4 of these hats are knitted, they are in moss stitch and require a small amount of millinery wire to keep shape, some canvas for the jockey cap - bottom right. And a small amount of wadding for the halo cap top right of cover. All instructions are included on how to make up, very easy to do.

vintage ladies beret and bag knitting pattern 1940s Bestway 1250: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for beret and bag 1940s. There are instructions for a super beret and matching bag both knitted, a small piece of canvas is required for the bag (two bag patterns included) an envelope bag and a shoulder bag. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. There are also instructions for what was popularly know as a jumper front and a waist coat front. This was just the fronts knitted and the neck ribbing would be joined so as to slip over the head and the waist ribbing would meet at the back with a button, or at the front. These were cheaper to make when there was a shortage of wool and coupons were required and were worn under suit jacket.

Knitted in vintage 3ply, modern 4ply might work but try modern 3ply as well - remember that for gloves and hats the fabric needs to be quite firm to keep the weather at bay.

Also included in this pattern instructions for 2 jumpers also in cobweb. Try 2ply synthetic yarn Jumpers to fit 34"-36" bust. If you do a tension square with modern 3ply you could find with a change of needle this works especially for the scarves, remember that to keep the floaty nature of the scarf, bigger needles than you think should be used to keep the yarn soft and flexible. vintage ladies 1930s hat and cape knitting patterns

Copley 856: Fabulous 1930s Astrakhan ladies knitting pattern. Instructions for quirky hat and cape with military collar. There are plenty of similar wools on the market that give a simulated fur or curly finish. A circular knitting needle is used, size 10 imperial or 3.25mm. The muff is in a different pattern which I don’t have at the moment, but they are not difficult to knit.

There are instructions for a neat bonnet, knitted in garter stitch, a hood in garter stitch and 'shock' helmet which is crocheted with ear defenders, which can also be worn as a cap with the flaps tied on top of the head! Great historical pattern.

Dorette 10-24LH: Great vintage halo hat and gloves CROCHET pattern from 1940s. This is definitely for that special occasion - in colour for bridesmaids, in ivory ow sparkling white for the bride. The between two layers of the Halo buckram is used to stiffen, or any other stiff material, then ribbons attached to tie at back of head under hair. Glove pattern is included.
