vintage mens vest and long johns knitting pattern from 1920s Bestway 257-3Muw: Great vintage 1920's knitting pattern for underwear for men. This super pattern has instructions for the long Johns and vest - super retro for period dramas, T.V. stage, weddings re-enactment etc. Knitted in double knitting ply to fit large size, to make smaller use 4ply or smaller needles (this is the instructions in the pattern!) Looks like about 40 inch chest. The long johns have white cotton top, instructions for this in pattern. Vest has long or short sleeves.

vintage baby body belts knitting 1920s Greenock 139: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for body belts 1920s or earlier. There are instrcutions for infants, ladies and mens. At one time these were essential garments - no central heating in those days! Very easy to knit and could be useful today for early o low weight babies to keep them extra warm, for sports men and women for that extra warm layer over the back.

KB1-178uw: Great vintage knitting pattern for men's vest and pants 1940s. This super pattern is for classic vest and trunks worn in the 1940s. The instructions are for pants to fit waist 28, length at side 16.5 inches and vest to fit 38 inch chest. Knitted in vintage 2ply so try modern 3ply and for a larger size try modern 4ply (but allow more yarn if you do this) The pants have elastic braid at the waist, which can be bought still at fabric shops. I think they are fabulous and great for that authentic finish if you do re-enactment weekends. The pattern includes instructins for a pai of long johns from the same era. KB5-135uw: These long johns are from the 1940s. This pattern is so useful for men who have outdoor hobbies - fishing, riding etc keeps warm and are slim fitting to wear under modern tighter outer wear. The legs can be made longer or shorter as wished. The length stated is 22 inches down outside leg, there are no other measurements given so are probbly for average men. Vintage 3ply is suggested so try modern 4ply knitted to 7st to an inch and 9 rows to an inch on size 9 needles (old sizes)  Looking at the tension it would seem that the hip measurement will be around 30 inches before stretching. Don't forget that wool will stretch well, but it is easy to add more stitches once you know how many you knit to an inch, just allow more wool.

Great for WW11 encactment groups or 40's weekends.  Feel authetic right down to the skin! See Mens World War Services Pages
