Briggs A988: Great vintage child's coat knitting pattern from 1930s. This coat is knitted in an Astrakhan style wool, that is thick and warm. The tension is 3.5 stitches to an inch, so a velvet double knitting or a nubbly one similar to Astrakhan, knitted on large needles this is a quick project and really retro. Because it is a bulky knit it takes a lot of balls. Sweet little beret.

Copleys 43C: Fabulous vintage knitting pattern for skater style winter set for little girl from 1920s. This set is knitted in 4ply. There is not size given, but the coat is flared and the leggings tightly fitted with a super cap so typical of 1920s. Cap is knitted in angora and the coat is trimmed in angora. Beautifully shaped. This is another of those patterns like so many early ones, that needs a bit of imagination as you knit. Measure as you go is my only suggestion. By the little girl on the front I'd think it was to fit a 3-4 year old, so probably a 24 inch chest.

Copleys 635C: Great vintage toddler's outdoor set with fair isle trim from 1930s. This pattern is to fit 2-3 years or 24 inch chest. It is worked in 4ply, with one colour for the rabbits. Original colour was green for outfit and fawn (sahara) for rabbits. No chart.

Golden Eagle 78C: Great vintage child's dressing gown knitting pattern from 1930s. This design is to fit roughly a 2-3 year old. No chest measurement is given. It is knitted in thick wool that was similar to a double knitting or even an Aran. Work a tension square if size is crucial. These types of garments often don’t require exact measurements. Length can be adjusted, the pattern states 21 inches and sleeve seem 13 inches as a guide. Instructions for slippers included.

Greenock 93C: Great really vintage little girl's cape knitting pattern from pre 1920s. This little pattern is so cute. The cape has side splits of arms and a wide collar. It matches the dress above and there is a cap to match. To fit 4-5 years old. Probably knitted in a 4ply, no tension is given, but you can work out near enough, work a tension square in whatever yarn you choose, to see how many stitches you knit to an inch. Compare with the measurements given.
The dress is loose and knitted in a front an back separate, but with sleeves knitted in, like a dolman style. It is embroidered in simple stitches to give definition and detail. A challenge, definitely but interesting.

Greenock B27C:Great vintage boy's suit knitting pattern from 1920s. This smart set is to fit 3-4 year old or 22 inch chest, so would actually fit a younger boy, just make jumper shorter. Worked in 4ply with fair isle bands around bottom of jumper and stripes on colour. It is fun to work with these older patterns. Even though a tension is not given still work a square and check your stitch count per inch - should be about 7-8 stitches to an inch, down size needle if needed. Orange, brown and fawn were colours used on the original.

M&C 69C: Great vintage little girl's suit with cap from 1930s. This set is so cute and should fit a 5 year old. Chest 23 inches, knitted in a 4ply wool. So easy to knit. Both my daughters wore similar outfits in the 1960s as toddlers. My eldest wore a similar suit on her first day at school in conker brown with gold trim and a gold short sleeved jumper underneath - ah, the 1960s! This shows how some styles transcend the passing of the decades. I even have one of my mini skirts but at over 70 and considerably rounder than my size 10 teenage self not too sure I would even consider trying it on!

Knitted in 3ply, use fine needles to get a close knit fabric and avoid stretching (soggy bottom syndrome).
