vintage baby knitting pattern 1940sdress

Pearsall's 353: Great vintage 1920s knitting pattern for baby dress. There are instructions for dress to fit 17 inch chest. The original yarn was a pure silk and wool blend, you can still by this type of yarn, but this was probably in a vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square, front and back are worked the same. the vest is to fit 16 inch chest. Can be knitted in pure silk, if you do this read the instructions on the back page for knitting with pure silk as this still holds true even for modern silk yarn. I will try knitting the vest in modern 3ply pure wool ans see what size it come out - just need a bit of time!

vintage baby toddler dress knitting pattern from 1930s silk dress

Robin 16: Great vintage baby or toddler dress knitting pattern from early 1930s. This little dress was knitted in art silk with angora sleeves and was originally 14 inches to hem, you can make it any length to suit, gives no chest measurement. A silk blend can be bought or pure silk - but always work a tension square. Although this pattern,  as many early patterns, does not give a tension. You will find out your tension by knitting this square and then you will be able to estimate the finished size once you know how many stitches to the inch you knit with chosen yarn. vintage knitting pattern for baby matinee 1930s weldons 84
Weldons 84: Denise: Great vintage knitting pattern baby matinee coat 1930s. So sweet this little coat knitted in vintage 3ply with art silk, there are several silk and wool mixes on the market today, you will need a 4ply modern yarn for the size stated but you can use a 3ply yarn to get a smaller size. An ordinary 4ply wool will work, try alpaca or cashmere or that soft silky feel of old fashion comfort.  No chest measurement given but will probably be around the 20-22 inches.

So this little coat, so retro in style and yarn is bunny wool or angora and will knit to modern 4ply, again no chest size, but 27 inches around bottom edge, probably around 20-22 inch chest as was usual at this time to knit to fit first 12 months. Knitted in one piece to arm holes and has a lacy pattern border then plain stocking stitch. Always work a tension square. Try modern 4ply if you don't want to work with angora.
