vintage ladies stocking knitting pattern 1930s

Bestway 442: Great vintage ladies stocking knitting pattern late 1930s. This pattern also has instructions for a pair of gloves. The good thing about knitted stockings is that they fit so well. This pattern has instructions for a pair fancy rib stocking in three sizes 9, 10 and 10.5 inch foot. The leg length can be adjusted. both gloves and stocking are knitted on 4 needles or a circular on if you prefer. The stocking are well shaped to give a good fit. Knitted in vintage 3ply on size 14  or 2mm needles, so probably modern 3ply would work, but to get good colours you may have to go to modern 4ply. Try BSK mills UK for dark colour in 3ply. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed.

vintage ladies knitted stockings

Maygroves 237: Here we have another vintage knitting pattern for ladies stockings, 1940. knitted on two needles in hosiery yarn, a silky rayon yarn on size 13 imperial needles (2.25mm) There are two different patterns, no sizes given, easy to knit to size using pair of socks, lengthen  or shorten as required. As these yarns are no longer made it is a case of trial and error to find one that works, but there are many cotton or synthetic yarns similar to choose from, just make sure it is fine, look at the crochet threads and work samples to see how they stretch and feel when knitted up. I have a very small sample of this thread in my collection which looks like a 20 cotton or 3ply yarn pure wool works as well.

ladies stockings knitting pattern 1940s wartime

GSS:Lace Stockings -6: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies lace stockings 1940s. This is a pattern for two different designs of stockings from the 1940s wartime. It saved on coupons if you knitted them yourself and of course they were warmer - no central heating in offices, homes or barracks! Knitted in vintage 3ply, the top left on two needles and four needles and lattice patterned one on the bottom right are knitted in vintage e3ply on four needles. Try a tension square in modern 4ply and modern 3ply if you can get the dark colours - try BSK Mills in Google. Depending on how fine you want the stockings. Change needles to get the correct tension in the yarn that you choose - pure wool is best as it more elastic to cling to the leg better than synthetic yarns. To fit 9.5 inch foot length and 25.5 leg length - this can be altered - but allow more yarn if you need to make them longer (but don't forget they stretch when they are on)
