Bestway 933: Great vintage ladies gored skirt knitting pattern from 1940s. Another wartime pattern, this easy to knit skirt will fit all sizes  just by varying the number of gores. Modern 4ply should be used and a tension square worked. Elastic is slotted through the waist to give support. There are also instructions for a crochet turban and scarf worked in Soloman's Knot very easy - so it says!

To fit 36 inch bust and 39 inch hips, shoulder pads are required, can be made with long or short sleeves. Knitted in vintage 3ply if making modern 4ply see if you need to change needles to get correct size.

Bestway 1003: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies skirts from 1940s. This early wartime, large format pattern has instructions for all designs shown. Knitted in 3ply and 4ply, so try modern 4ply and modern double knitting in tension square. There is a ribbed skirt, flared skirt, plain and tucked skirt. Says to fit average figure which at that time would have been 12-14 size. The hip measurement is up to 40 inches all round, with one going up to 44 inches.

Copley 959: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies jumper suit from the 1930s. The lovely suit shown here from the one in my collection is super easy to knit and very retro. From the late 1930s it is knitted in vintage 4ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square as well as modern double knit (worsted or 8ply) To fit 37-38 inch hip and 34-35 inch bust. Jumper is nice on its own with interesting yoke design.

Copley 984: Great vintage ladies suit knitting pattern 1930s. This stunning suit, including jacket and skirt is worked in modern 4ply, but work a tension square before you start and change needles if needed to get the correct tension for size. The fabric needs to be firm but flexible, you could try using double knitting but as this ply was not available at that time it is more likely to be nearer our modern 4ply. There were were wools like 'speedknit' which fell between the two, similar to the 1950s quicker-knit - so try and see which one will suit your tension.

This lovely design has a beautifully fitted jacket that is nipped in at the waist and moulded over the hips with gored skirt that is so flattering. To fit 34 inch bust and is knitted in a vintage 4ply that would be similar to a modern double knitting with a change of needles. Length of skirt is adjustable. Royal blue, Meadow Green, Dragon's Blood as colours are suggested!

Copleys 1382: Great vintage ladies skirt knitting pattern 1940s. Note the shorter length as wool was rationed it changed fashions as all fabric was on coupons, so skirts got shorter, blouses tighter! And a lot of short sleeved tops and reworked wool. There are 4 styles in this pattern. To fit 36-38 inch hips. Skirts 1 and 3 are knitted on a circular needle. All in vintage 4ply, so try modern double knitting in a tension square.

Golden Eagle 882: Great vintage ladies knitting for a pleated skirt from the 1930s. This elegant skirt is to fit 38 inch hips, waist 26 inches and length 32inches, this would have been suitable for the era, but of course you can make it shorter or longer. Always work a tension square, a vintage 3ply was used so try modern 4ply in a tension square.

ladies vintage suit knitting pattern 1940s Lee 679: Great vintage ladies late 1930s early1940s suit knitting pattern. This suit is knitted in a 4ply bouclé, always work a tension square in the 4ply you choose and change needles if needed. To fit 34 inch bust, skirt length is 28 inches but is adjustable. Front of skirt in flat and back is softly pleated to match peplum at back of jacket, but can be worked flat like front. Instructions to knit shoulder pads for jacket!

ladies tennis skirt knitting pattern from 1920s as seen in Agatha Christie LSV5-82: Great vintage ladies sports or tennis skirt knitting pattern from 1920s. This simple to knit skirt is knitted on what was known as a flexi-knit needle or a more often called a circular needle now. n easy stocking stitch is used and by knitting together at various intervals a panel shaped skirt is obtained. The belt is crocheted, but a knitted or woven belt would work just as well. To fit waist 24-26 and length is 32 inches (remember that all skirts were a lot longer at this time.) Try modern 4ply, work a tension square and change needles to get a good result if needed. The long line and slim fitting style is typical of the 1920s. Sorry picture is not so clear but the magazine is almost 100 years old!

It is knitted in bouclé wool, try a fine double knitting for this one. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed. To fit 34 inch bust, hips 36. The skirt is easy to make a bit wider as it is knitted in two straight panels. Once you can see how many stitches your yarn produces you can add extra stitches to increase inches at the hips. The jacket is again worked panels which are then sewn together with detailed instruction on making up.

Patons 158 Skirts: Great vintage ladies skirt knitting pattern from 1940s. This is a lovely pattern with three different styles to knit - very popular in the war years. These designs are knitted in 4ply, but still work a tension square and keep to a tight tension, to keep fit correct in wear.  Closed with press studs and hook an eyes. Petesham will be needed for inside waist. Ask at a sewing shop for this. To fit hips 37, 39, 41 inches, length 26, 27, 28 inches(adjustable)

Work tension square in yarn you choose, a double knit might work as the needles suggest this ply, but try a 4ply for that finer look if you cannot find a bouclé to suit.

Knitted in a thick wool on 5 and 8 needles (5.5mm and 4mm) So try an Aran or thickish double knit. Beautifully shaped and fitted.

Templeton's 581: Great vintage knitting pattern from the late 1930s. This one is for a stunning pleated shoulder suit with fitted jacket and skirt with front pleat. Smart and tailored look in a fancy yarn similar to bouclé. Instructions for short sleeve jacket or long sleeved. The yarn should knit to modern 4ply with good results. The jacket has super styling and shaping, but is easy to knit.

Templeton's 635: Great vintage knitting pattern for casual suit from the 1940s. This one has a pleated skirt and casual jacket with lovely art deco style pocket and shorter skirt (due to wool rationing). To fit 34 inch bust and up to a 38 inch hip. There is no tension given in the pattern, but if you work a square in the yarn you choose, try a 4ply and see what results you get. Once you know how many stitches you knit to an inch you will be about to adjust the pattern.

Weldons 319-6LS: Great vintage ladies suit knitting pattern from 1935. There are instructions for ribbed skirt, that could be made shorter and the jacket is checked, very sporty outfit! There are also instructions for moss stitch neck scarf tie bib front.. Skirt waist 28-29 inches and the Jacket is 34 inches at bust. Try a modern 4ply for this one. Always work a tension square. Colours suggested are beige an brown for country wear and navy and white for town wear.
