Argyll 136: Unusual, very elegant vintage knitting pattern for a waistcoat in the long line that is so fashionable now, 1940's pattern in great condition, a small nick at front edge near bottom. Clean and sound.  It says it uses double knitting 3ply, dont be confused this is a type of double knitting, just a little thicker than some of the modern yarns DK yarns, work a tension square to make sure you use the right size needles to get your size. To fit 33"-34" bust.

Bairnswear 309: This is a fabulous vintage pattern, great for skiing or other winter pursuits. Vintage 4ply is used so you will probably find modern double knitting will work just as well, try a tension square first and change needles if necassary. The bobble pattern is quite easy and very effective. 34" bust but if you knit it in double knitting on size 10 and 8 imperial size needles (3.25 and 4mm)it will make up a little larger.As pattern is rather fagile it is offered only as a photocopy and a pdf.This one is probably from the 1930's or early 40's

Bestway 93-1: Vintage booklet with lots of designs for the summer sun - when we get it! Maybe they had more in the 1940's and 50's. Pattern book is a little fragile so photocopies only, sorry. The first one is of the bra-top and shorts featured on the cover, knitted in 4ply bust 32"-34" and hips 36"-38"  (how slim ladies were in the 'good ole days' !)

Vintage 1940s Jumpers and Accessories in Knitting and Crochet

Bestway 98L: Jumpers and Accessories in Knitting and Crochet: Great vintage knitting crochet pattern 1940s. This booklet has 9 different patterns. There are the ones shown on the cover, plus a short sleeved jumper in petal stitch to fit 34 inch bust (the jumper and jacket on the cover are both 34 inch bust) crochet gloves, jumper to fit 32 inch bust, bedcape with rose medalllion edging as well as the beret, jacket and collar and cuffs(shown on fornt cover). There are also instructions for slip over in fancy rib to fit 31-33 inch bust. There are 9 items and 12 pages in all.

Bestway 141L: Great vintage ladies cardigan hood trunks knitting pattern 1930s. This pattern is from the late 1930s into the araly 1940s with instructions for a button up jacket, hood in two different styles and winter knickers or trunks. Double knitting weight wool is required, but do knit a tension square to see if you need to change needles. The trunks are in 4ply, but again a tensions quare will tell you if modern double knitting might work better. To fit 34-36 inch bust and the trunks fit 36-40 hip, length adjustable.

This pattern has two different designs, this one and the one below, both CROCHET worked in modern 3ply wool or no 20 cotton, always do a tension square and change needles if needed to get the correct tension. This one is in 'filet lace' and measures 36" - 37" bust. The cuffs, collar and waistband are in ribbed knitting.

Printed on nice paper. There are instructions for long or short sleeves jumper in pretty twisted stitch which gives the appearance of cable with out the cable needle, to fit up to 34 inch bust. Vintage 3ply sliky yarn is used, so try a modern 4ply perle or similar to get a sheen or just ordinary 4ply in a tension square, change needles if needed to get the correct measurements, try a large rneedle for a large size, but allow a bit more wool if you do this.

This pattern is lovely, it is for what was called a jumper cardigan, with beautifully fitted shoulders and contrast collar and buttons. Knitted originally in a boucle, it can be knitted in any 4ply, just work a tension square and change needles if needed to get the sizing. The design is call a broken cable-rib. To fit 33-35 inch bust.

This lovely pattern is called arrow head and the little cardigan or button up jumper is worked in vintage 3ply, so do a tension square in modern 4ply to see if this works better.Th measurement is 36 inch bust but the pattern explains how to make the jumper upto 6 sizes larger, by adding stitches. Remember to add more wool if you make a larger size. Instructions also included for the crocheted button on this little jumper.

Bestway 755: Another fabulous vintage knitting pattern for a ladies dress from the late 1930's. Knitted in Bouclet wool on size 10 imperial needles. So could work out to modern 4ply, Bouclet was a fancy yarn with small flat bobbles along its lengeth, you can buy similar today, but watch the ply. Work a tension square and see what needles you might need with the wool you choose. Tension is 7st and 10 rows on size 10 (3.25mm) over stocking stitch. Fabulous detail on back see below. To fit  34" chest, 42" length.
